The "Gutshof Neuendorf im Sande" project documents the estate’s history as a 1930s hachshara site where persecuted Jews trained agriculturally to leave Nazi Germany.From 1941,it became a forced labor camp;in April 1943,the last Jewish residents were deported to Auschwitz.During GDR times, it was state-owned.Today, the project offers workshops on history, politics, concerts, readings, films,and theater to promote a democratic, inclusive society without racism. From July 17–19, an international festival will offer workshops on democracy, anti-Semitism,and racism, plus live music and artistic performances.It addresses regional anti-democratic issues and the Israel-Gaza situation, focusing on exchange and networking for justice.Volunteers are needed for festival support and light maintenance like cleaning and plant cutting.
Accommodation is in shared rooms with communal kitchen and bathrooms, one indoor shower plus outdoor showers, Wi-Fi, and leisure activities like campfires, table tennis, and bike rides to lakes or Fürstenwalde. The estate is 5 km from Fürstenwalde, reachable by bike;Berlin is 30 minutes by train.Bikes are provided.
The study part explores Jewish self-organization under Nazi persecution, remembrance culture in rural areas, and democracy. Excursions to similar sites can be arranged. Participants should be interested in Jewish history, willing to do light work, able to bike, and submit a motivation letter.
