Jugendhof Bessunger Forst e.V. is a non-profit children’s and youth centre near Darmstadt, Germany, offering nature-based learning and leisure for over 40 years. It welcomes children, youth, families, clubs, and initiatives. The “ForstLove Café” opens Sundays in spring and summer with music for families and low-income visitors. More at jugendhof.org.
This year’s work camp focuses on craft projects like building furniture and ramps to improve accessibility. Tasks include sawing, drilling, and hammering with expert help. No prior skills needed, just teamwork and interest. Projects may also aid local inclusive initiatives. Young people with diverse abilities will join, promoting mutual learning.
Leisure includes forest walks, meadows for picnics, a wooden yurt, and a bathing lake an hour away. Darmstadt is culturally rich, with the UNESCO-listed Mathildenhöhe Artists Colony and a climbing park nearby.
Located between Darmstadt and Roßdorf, 30 km south of Frankfurt, volunteers stay in the ‘Sharewood Lodge’ with kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Bring work clothes, rainwear, sturdy shoes, swimming gear, warm clothes, sunscreen, and towels. Bed linen provided. Legal self-declaration for child protection required.
