The “Justus Delbrück Haus” | Akademie für Mitbestimmung in Jamlitz is a space for events like exhibitions, cinema evenings, and educational programs. Karuna e.V. transformed the disused railway station into a hub for social projects. It’s a historical site where former homeless and disadvantaged youth participate in democratic and self-determined programs. The station is located in a rural area surrounded by forests, lakes, and fields.
Volunteers will help preserve the historic site by clearing wild growth and bushes. The work is physical and outdoors. They’ll learn about the station’s history, interact with locals, and contribute to the Lieberose Memorial. Volunteers can also repair bicycles and explore the nearby Schwansee lake.
Jamlitz has a rich history, including an artists' colony, its role during WWII, and use by Soviet troops. Volunteers will learn through tours, seminars, and conversations with locals. Excursions to nearby cities like Cottbus, Eisenhüttenstadt, or Berlin can be arranged.
Accommodation is in shared rooms at the railway station, with the option to camp. Volunteers will cook and eat with residents. Bring a sleeping bag, pillow, towel, work clothes, rain gear, sturdy shoes, and warm clothing for cool nights. Swimming gear and sun protection are recommended. Volunteers should be able to cycle and swim.
Alcohol and drugs are not allowed. After registration, a self-declaration on child and youth protection is required.
