The “Justus Delbrück Haus” | Akademie für Mitbestimmung in Jamlitz is a cultural and educational space in a restored railway station, bought by Karuna e.V. in 2008. It hosts exhibitions, cinema evenings, and programs, and includes a residential community for former homeless youth. In cooperation with the Lieberose memorial, it offers disadvantaged youth artistic and historical education. Surrounded by forests, lakes, and fields, the rural setting supports its educational focus on presence and self-determination.
Work focuses on preserving the historic site through horticultural tasks like clearing wild growth with hoes, saws,and spades physically demanding labor.Volunteers also help maintain the Lieberose memorial’s greenery and repair bikes in a workshop, with trips to Schwansee lake.They assist in preparing a summer party at the Lieberose youth center on August 22, featuring live bands, food trucks, and workshops.
Leisure includes exploring nature,bathing lakes, and local history from an artists’ colony to its roles during Nazi and Soviet times. Guided tours and seminars explore this layered history.Excursions to Cottbus, Eisenhüttenstadt, or Berlin can be arranged.
Accommodation is in the former station with shared rooms; bring sleeping bags or bed linen.Tent camping is possible. Meals are shared with residents.
Volunteers should be able to cycle and swim safely and Alcohol and drugs are not allowed.
