The story of the Old Town’s cultural revival in Podgorica began in 2016, when an EVS volunteer initiated the creation of a guide dedicated to exploring this historic part of the city. Information and photos were collected by both EVS and local volunteers, who also assisted in preparing the printed edition of the guide. ESC volunteers can now build on this initiative by using their creativity and communication skills to help disseminate knowledge about the Old Town — its rich history, cultural heritage, and hidden stories.
Upbeat Hub is located in the oldest house in Podgorica, situated in the Old Town - known as Stara Varoš in Montenegrin. This historic building once served as the office of Podgorica’s first mayor, Marko Miljanov. As the number of tourists in Podgorica continues to grow each year, so does the importance of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Old Town. Through cultural interpretation, storytelling, and creative engagement, the project aims to help tourists and locals alike connect with the soul of Stara Varoš — not just as a location, but as a living memory of Podgorica's past.
