Eilenburg, a small town of about 17,000 near the Dübener Heide and 25 km from Leipzig, has hosted workcamps for over 10 years. The youth club House6 CLOUD, located in a former barracks near the town center, hosts the camp along with other social, sports, and cultural projects.
This year, volunteers will support the local rowing club by building a new rowing hall with woodwork and painting, and help resurface the youth club’s beach volleyball court with fresh sand. Tasks will be assigned in consultation with participants.
Volunteers will learn about youth cultures in Germany and improve German by working with local adolescents. Leisure activities include football, basketball, volleyball, skate park, table tennis, billiards, darts, and swimming at a nearby lake. Planned trips include Leipzig with canoeing on the Pleiße and Elster rivers, Berlin, and exploring Eilenburg’s 800-year-old castle cellars. A raft trip on the Mulde river is also possible.
Eilenburg, once a medieval and industrial center, was mostly destroyed in WWII. The Sorbenturm and Amtshaus remain as historic landmarks connected by a volunteer-renewed path.
Accommodation is at HOUSE6 CLOUD with shared rooms, kitchen, sports facilities, and common areas. Bring a sleeping bag, sleeping mat, work clothes, rainwear, and sturdy shoes.
